Stuff - Weekender: Tuck me in to Blanket Bay
Jun 28, 2015
THE SETTING It's a typical gloomy, rain-filled morning when we take off from Auckland and I'm anxious to show my guests that New Zealand has more to offer. Two hours later and we're on the road from Queenstown to Glenorchy.
It's not called New Zealand's most scenic drive for nothing; travelling the length of the impossibly clear Lake Wakatipu provides unparalleled views of the spectacular alpine scenery.
It's impossible to take a bad photograph here and 45 snap-happy minutes later we turn off the road, drive through a large bucolic farm gate and meander down the driveway... we're at the northern end of the lake - where Blanket Bay, a luxury lodge, sits nestled on the shore, surrounded by the majestic snow-capped Humbolt Mountain range.
