Lodge awarded major building prize

Alex Dickson, the project manager of Glenorchy's Blanket Bay Lodge took out one of the building industry's top prizes, the 2001 James Hardie Award, in Auckland on Saturday night and also won the category for projects over $2 million.
Mr. Dickson received the two awards at the New Zealand Institute of Building James Hardie Awards for Excellence in Building Professions.
The owners of the property Tom and Pauline Tusher from San Francisco, bought the property back in 1974 and had spent the past 27 years figuring out what to do with the land. Construction of Blanket Bay lodge took more than two years and was completed and opened for business in December 1999.
James Hardie general manager David Worley said the awards continue to benchmark excellence in the building industry. This year, six award winners were chosen from 16 finalists, comprising 19 entries in five categories.
